"I traveled to Grand Cayman with my heart set on a single image: the perfect sunrise split shot at Stingray City. It’s a place that rarely cooperates—wind and surface chop often disrupt the clean line needed to divide two worlds. We waited until the final morning of the week-long trip to try, slipping into the water before first light and watching as the conditions slowly revealed themselves.

What followed was an exercise in patience. Over the course of 2 hours I worked to get this shot, waiting for the sun to crest at just the right angle, for the surface to settle into a clean horizon, and for a lone ray to glide through the frame in perfect alignment. Hundreds of attempts fell short—ripples breaking the line, rays veering off course, the light falling not quite right. But then finally, for a brief moment, everything came together.

Looking back at this image now, it feels peaceful—almost effortless. It serves as a reminder for me that it's always well worth the effort and challenge of creating an image that captures the breathtaking beauty of our ocean planet."
